What Is Viscon White Granite?

Viscon White is a pale granite quarried in India, its light gray to off-white ground crossed by fine, darker linear veining. First glance says marble, and that resemblance is the whole reason anyone in CDO specifies it.

Rather than the sweeping bands of a white marble, the veins here run as narrow, roughly parallel lines. Get close and the granular crystal structure gives the game away, but at room distance the illusion holds.

Some suppliers sell it as Viscount White. One stone, two names, and our Cagayan de Oro yard stocks it under the first.

Why Choose It Over Marble?

Because it looks like marble and behaves like granite. A hot pan lands on it without scorching the surface, knives leave it alone, and calamansi or vinegar does nothing to the polish.

That last point is what counts in a Kagay-anon kitchen. Arabescato and Crema Marfil both etch the moment acid touches them, and no sealer stops it. This stone never has that problem.

How Do You Clean Viscon White Granite?

Three habits, and a pale counter stays pale.

Clean as You Go

What a dark ground buries, a light one puts on show, so clear spills as they happen instead of leaving them for the evening. Coffee, oil and turmeric are the three to reach first.

Use Only Granite Cleaner

Residue from dish soap builds into a film that dulls the polish, and on pale stone that film reads as a grubby cast. A pH-balanced granite cleaner leaves none of it.

Skip the Abrasives

Powders and scouring pads scuff a polish, and a dull patch on a light surface catches the light differently from everything around it. A soft cloth does the job.

How Do You Care for Viscon White Granite?

Three habits, and sealing is the one that matters.

Seal It When It Needs It

A more open mineral structure than the dense blacks means sealer soaks in here and does real work. Go round again once the surface darkens where liquid stands.

Always Use a Cutting Board

Scratching it takes effort, but knives go blunt on it faster than on timber. A board saves your blades and keeps the polish even in the spot you always use.

Never Sit or Stand on It

Hard is not flexible, and an unsupported overhang can crack under body weight. Pull up a step stool rather than climbing onto the counter.

Is Viscon White Granite Good for Kitchen Countertops?

The practical way to get a pale veined counter.

Yes. When you want white marble to look at and granite to live with, this is the stone. Marble itself cannot offer that pairing, and five points decide how it behaves.

Cookware comes off the burner straight onto it and will not scorch the surface, which is not true of engineered quartz. A trivet is still worth using, because any stone can crack if the temperature change is sudden and extreme.
Acid has nothing to bite on, so calamansi, vinegar and tomato leave no dull marks.
Knives and daily traffic leave nothing visible on a stone this hard.
Sealing comes round from time to time, because a pale granite is more absorbent than a dark one.
Staining is the risk to manage rather than etching, and sealing is what manages it.

Set against a solid dark stone, the trade-off is visibility. Coffee rings, oil splashes and crumbs that Absolute Black would swallow all show on a pale ground, so expect to wipe more often.

Set against real marble, it is not a close contest for a working kitchen. You give up the depth and movement of a quarried white marble, and you get back a surface that forgives the way people actually cook.

Does Viscon White Granite Need Sealing?

It does, unlike the dense blacks.

Yes. Reseal a Viscon White counter once the surface starts darkening where liquid has been standing, a point a busy kitchen reaches well before a guest vanity.

The mineral structure sits more open than the dense blacks, so a sealer penetrates and earns its keep. Absolute Black and Black Galaxy are tight enough to skip it altogether; this one is not.

Test whenever you are unsure. A few drops of water on an inconspicuous part of the counter, fifteen minutes, then wipe: a darker patch where the water sat means the seal has worn through, and any interval you read is only ever a guide.

What sealing buys you is protection from staining, the real risk on a pale stone. Etching is not on the list, because granite is not calcium carbonate and acid does not dissolve it.

Viscon White vs White Marble and Quartz in Cagayan de Oro

Choose Viscon White if you cook and want low risk

It takes heat, resists scratching and never etches. For a working kitchen after the pale veined look that combination is the whole argument, and the slab is ₱4,300 per sqm.

Choose marble if the material itself matters

Arabescato and Crema Marfil carry depth and movement granite cannot reproduce. Both etch on acid contact, both want sealing as often as every six months, and both are indent order, quoted per project rather than priced off a shelf.

Royal Calacatta never needs sealing, resists staining, and carries veining more dramatic than this stone manages, at ₱9,000 per sqm in CDO. It cannot take a hot pan, and it yellows outdoors.

On outdoor use, granite wins outright

Viscon White is UV-stable and holds its colour in full sun. Quartz yellows and marble weathers, which leaves granite as the only one of the three fit for a lanai or a dirty kitchen.

What Colours Go With Viscon White Granite?

A pale neutral, which is the easiest possible starting point.

Light ground, gray veining: the stone reads cool without ever turning cold. Very little clashes with a neutral that even.

White and pale gray cabinetry gives a tonal, airy result, which suits the compact condo kitchens where a dark counter would shut the room down.

For contrast, navy, forest green and charcoal all do well. The counter becomes the bright line through the scheme rather than its feature, which is usually the right job for a pale stone.

Timber warms it considerably, and mid-tone oak sits particularly well against the gray veining without either one competing.

Chrome, brushed nickel and matte black fittings all suit it. Brass works where the rest of the scheme is warm, though it pulls against the coolness in the veining.

Is Viscon White granite or marble?

Granite. The resemblance is what sells it, but the mineral structure is a different thing altogether and so is the behaviour.

In practice that means it does not etch. Acid dissolves marble on contact and leaves a dull mark; against granite it does nothing at all.

Is Viscon White the same as Viscount White?

Does Viscon White granite stain?

Yes, if it is left unsealed. Staining shows more readily on a pale ground than a dark one, and oil, coffee, turmeric and red wine are the usual culprits.

Sealing is exactly what prevents that. Keep it up, blot spills reasonably promptly, and staining stops being a practical concern.

Does the veining vary between slabs?

Considerably, and more than buyers expect from a pale stone. Vein density, vein thickness and the warmth of the background all move from block to block.

Can Viscon White granite be used outdoors?

Yes. Granite is UV-stable and will neither yellow nor fade in full sun, which suits lanais, dirty kitchens and pool bars.

Keep the sealing up, since an outdoor surface takes more weather than an indoor one. For anything underfoot consider a leathered or flamed finish, because polished stone turns slippery when wet.

Does it look like Carrara marble?

It reads similarly from a distance, pale ground and fine gray veining alike. Pattern is where the two part company: Carrara veins run soft and feathery, where these are narrower and more linear.

Close up, the granular crystal structure of granite shows and marble is smoother. Few people examine a countertop that closely.

Is Viscon White cheaper than white marble?
