What Is Granite & Stone Polish?

A cleaner that hands the shine back as it works.

Stone Care International Granite & Stone Polish is a pH-neutral cleaner and polish for natural stone. Grease and residue come away as they would with any stone cleaner, and the polished surface is left brighter than it was found.

The second half of that job is what sets it apart from a plain cleaner. Polished granite rarely goes flat because the stone itself has changed; it goes flat because soap film, hard water residue and cooking grease have layered themselves over the polish.

What this bottle does is strip that layer away so the reflection underneath reappears. There is nothing abrasive in it and it does not repolish anything, so all you recover is the finish the slab already had.

Granite, marble and onyx all suit it. Engineered quartz calls for Quartz Clean & Shine, the same brand reformulated around a resin surface.

Why Has My Granite Lost Its Shine?

Four causes, and the stone is to blame for only one.

Soap film, by far the most common

Washing-up liquid dries on a stone counter and the residue thickens invisibly over months. Underneath it the granite is untouched; what you are looking at is a coat of dried soap, and clearing that coat is what a polish is for.

Hard water deposits

Mineral deposits gather around a sink and a tap and leave a cloudy bloom behind. Plenty of Kagay-anon households mistake that bloom for damage to the polish itself.

Cooking grease

A fine airborne film settles over an entire kitchen rather than the counter alone. Dullness spread evenly across a wide area, instead of showing up in patches, usually points here.

Genuine wear, which this will not fix

Abrasive powders, scouring pads and acid etching cut into the surface physically. Nothing sprayed on afterwards reverses that, and repolishing or restoration is not a service Stone Depot offers. Heat marks sit in the same bracket: granite will not scorch, yet a trivet still earns its keep, because any stone can crack when the temperature change is sudden and extreme. Prevention remains the only cure.

How Do You Use Granite & Stone Polish?

Three steps, and the first is the one people skip.

Clear the Build-Up First

Where a counter carries months of soap film, the opening pass is cleaning rather than polishing. Plan on covering a neglected surface a second time before any shine appears.

Work in Sections

Spray only as much area as you can wipe before it dries. Product left to dry streaks, and on dark granite under strong light those streaks show badly.

Buff With a Dry Cloth

Finish with clean dry microfiber so the reflection comes up evenly. That final step is the difference between a counter that is clean and a counter that looks new.

Does Polishing Replace Sealing?

No. And this misunderstanding gets expensive.

No. A polish acts on the surface and makes the stone look its best. A sealer acts inside the pores and keeps oil and wine from soaking through. A counter can look flawless while being entirely unprotected.

They are not alternatives, and the polish is not the one that matters most. If the budget has to choose, Proseal at ₱4,600 protects the stone while this bottle at ₱1,700 makes it shine.

Judge the seal by the water test rather than by appearance. Put a few drops on an inconspicuous spot, wait fifteen minutes, wipe, and darkened stone means sealing is due however good the polish looks. Treat any interval you read as a guide, not a promise.

Some stones never need a sealer at all. Absolute Black, Black Galaxy, Tan Brown and Marigold are dense enough to go without, and colour tells you nothing about which ones those are.

Can You Use It on Engineered Quartz?

No. There is a reason the brand bottles two products.

No. This is built for a porous mineral surface. Quartz resists staining and is bound with polymer resin, so a stone polish only leaves residue perched on top instead of achieving anything.

Quartz Clean & Shine comes from Stone Care International for precisely that material, and at ₱1,700 the two are level on price. They look alike on a shelf, so read the label of the one in your hand.

Kitchens running both materials, a quartz island with a granite perimeter being the usual pattern, are better off buying the pair. It is easier than remembering which surface takes which bottle.

Wax deserves the same caution. Cera Fluida gives natural stone real depth, and on quartz it thickens and yellows.

Why has my granite counter gone dull?
Almost always soap film, hard water deposits near the sink, or airborne cooking grease. The stone underneath is generally in perfect condition, and clearing the build-up brings the shine straight back.

What is the difference between this and Weiman?
Both clean natural stone. This one costs ₱1,700 and concentrates on returning shine to a surface that has gone dull. Weiman, at ₱1,500, sanitises while it cleans, which suits a counter used for preparing raw food.

Does polishing seal the stone?
No. Polishing acts on the surface; sealing acts inside the pores. A counter can look flawless and still absorb oil. Let the water test tell you where the seal stands instead of judging by looks.

Can I use it on engineered quartz?
No. Quartz is resin-bound and resists staining, so a stone polish leaves residue sitting on the surface. Stone Care International bottles Quartz Clean & Shine at the same price for that material.

Can I use it on marble and onyx?
Yes. The formula is pH-neutral, which is what those stones ask for. Steer anything acidic away from marble and onyx, because acid etches calcium carbonate however well the surface has been sealed.

Will it remove an etch mark?
No. An etch is physical damage where acid has eaten into the polish, not a deposit resting on top. Light etching on marble can be buffed out with polishing powder, a different product doing a different job.

Will it remove a stain?
No. A stain has been absorbed into the stone, so it needs a poultice to draw it back out rather than a surface cleaner. Our staff can advise which poultice fits the stain and the stone.
