What Is Nimbus Quartz?

Fine speckle over a deep charcoal base.

Nimbus is an engineered quartz in a deep charcoal gray, finely and evenly grained with lighter gray and translucent flecks. Nothing has to be positioned when the slab is cut, because that speckle repeats at the same scale edge to edge, with no vein to place.

Construction is identical to Moonstone, at the pale end of the same tonal scale. Moonstone is a flecked white where this one is a flecked dark, and the pair are frequently specified together, one on the island and the other on the perimeter run.

Pricing at our Cagayan de Oro yard puts it at ₱5,500 per square meter, one step above the four Sapphire colorways that share ₱5,200, near the foot of the range. What separates it from the veined designs at ₱8,000 is how demanding the pattern is to produce, not the material underneath.

It is manufactured rather than quarried: about 93% crushed natural stone held together by roughly 7% resin. That build is what leaves it stain-resistant, keeps acids from etching it, and takes sealing out of the picture.

How Do You Clean Nimbus Quartz?

Three habits keep the depth in a dark surface.

Always Keep the Surface Dry

Dried droplets and limescale stand out on a dark polish in a way they never would on a pale one. Go over it with a damp cloth, follow with a dry one, and the finish reads clean instead of streaked.

Use Only Quartz Cleaner

Dish soap leaves a film behind, and on charcoal that film turns into a dull gray haze inside a few weeks. A pH-balanced quartz cleaner lifts residue off without attacking the resin binding the slab together.

Never Scour It

Scouring pads, steel wool and abrasive powders scuff a polish permanently. Reach for a plastic scraper when something has dried on and the surface comes through unmarked.

How Do You Care for Nimbus Quartz?

Sealing is off the table, which leaves three rules.

Always Use Trivets

Resin is the heat-sensitive part of the slab, so a pan taken straight off a burner can scorch or discolor it beyond repair. More quartz counters are ruined this way than any other, and no workmanship warranty stretches to cover it.

Keep It Out of Direct Sun

Long UV exposure fades engineered quartz and there is no reversing it. A dark slab sheds depth as that happens, so blinds are worth fitting where afternoon light lands, and quartz belongs indoors.

Skip Harsh Chemicals

High-pH products, bleach and oven cleaner break the resin down over time. Wax is out too, since it accumulates into a cloudy bloom that charcoal shows very plainly.

Is Nimbus Quartz Good for Kitchen Countertops?

Yes, with the one trade every dark counter makes.

Yes. Etching and staining both meet resistance in engineered quartz, so vinegar, lemon juice, wine and red sauce lift away instead of leaving a mark behind. Against charcoal a spill is hard to spot long before anyone gets to it.

Hardness is on your side as well. Quartz measures about 7 on the Mohs scale where marble measures 3, so it shrugs off the scratching that leaves a soft natural stone looking tired after a few years of cooking.

Here is the trade. A dark counter swallows food and stains, then displays the dust, fingerprints and dried water marks a pale slab would have hidden. Speckle takes the edge off that, which is why charcoal with a grain lives easier than flat black. Plan on wiping more often.

Heat is the real ceiling. Set a pan down straight from the burner and the resin scorches, which no polishing undoes. For a Cagayan de Oro kitchen where hot pans land on the counter as a matter of course, a dark granite forgives far more.

Does Nimbus Quartz Need Sealing?

Nothing to seal — the slab is manufactured, not quarried.

No. A sealer works by filling the pore structure inside quarried stone so liquid cannot travel through it. On engineered quartz it achieves nothing, and some formulations attack the resin.

Useful if natural stone is still in the running: the dark granites we stock skip sealing too. Absolute Black and Black Galaxy are both dense enough to go without, so on upkeep alone the three finish level.

Anyone selling you sealer for a quartz counter has either been misinformed or is moving stock you do not need. Cleaning is the entire maintenance routine.

Nimbus vs Our Other Dark Surfaces

Nimbus is the engineered one

Fine speckle over charcoal at ₱5,500 per sqm. Take it when a dark surface has to stay consistent and finer in grain than the Sapphire aggregate designs.

Moonstone is the same texture in white

Moonstone puts that identical speckle on a bright white ground at ₱5,700 per sqm. The two are built to work as a pair, which makes a charcoal perimeter with a white island simple to specify.

Black Galaxy is the natural version

Black Galaxy delivers flecks on black as quarried stone rather than something manufactured, with bronze glints in place of gray. A hot pan does not trouble it, and that is exactly where Nimbus gives way.

Absolute Black if you want no pattern at all

Absolute Black is flat black with neither fleck nor vein. Heat tolerance matches Black Galaxy, and of the three it is the most severe thing to look at.

What Colors Go With Nimbus Quartz?

A dark counter anchors the room and lets everything above it lift.

Charcoal grounds a scheme, so the usual move is to keep cabinetry lighter and let the counter run as the heavy band through the middle of the room.

White and off-white cabinetry deliver the cleanest contrast, and the gray flecks stop the join looking as abrupt as it would over flat black. Pale gray does the same job and reads a shade softer.

Timber is the warmer answer. Oak or light walnut over charcoal is a dependable pairing, and it keeps a gray kitchen from tipping into something cold.

Going dark on both sides is the trap. Charcoal beneath navy or dark gray cabinetry shuts a room down quickly, hardest in a compact CDO condo kitchen with one window. Where the cabinetry is already dark, Moonstone runs the same idea in reverse and keeps the space open.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Nimbus real stone?
No, not the way a quarried slab is. This is engineered quartz, roughly 93% crushed natural stone bound with about 7% resin. Quartz itself is a natural mineral, but the slab comes off a production line rather than out of the ground, so nothing etches it and sealing never applies.

Does a dark quartz counter show dust and fingerprints?
Yes, more than a pale one does. Smudges, dust and dried water marks all register against charcoal even while food and stains do not. Speckle softens the effect compared with a flat black slab.

Can you put a hot pan on Nimbus quartz?
No. Direct heat scorches the resin holding the slab together and the mark will not polish out. Where hot pans go straight down on the counter, a dark granite copes with that and quartz does not.

Why is Nimbus cheaper than your veined quartz?
Pattern complexity, not a difference in material. An even grain is far simpler to produce than veining, which puts Nimbus at ₱5,500 per sqm against ₱8,000 for the veined designs. Thickness, hardness and durability do not shift between them.

Does Nimbus quartz stain?
It resists staining, though nothing is immune. Spills sit up on the surface instead of soaking in. Coffee, red wine and turmeric all wipe away, and against a charcoal ground you can barely see them in the meantime.

Does the pattern need aligning across a seam?
No. The speckle is uniform and carries no direction, so a slab can go down whichever way suits the room and a joint needs nothing matched across it. That keeps L-shaped layouts and long runs straightforward.

Can Nimbus quartz be used outdoors?
No. Sustained UV fades engineered quartz permanently, and a dark slab visibly loses its depth as that happens. For a lanai or an outdoor counter, granite is the material that holds its color in the sun.
