Breccia wants the sealer laid on evenly across the entire slab, because the pale matrix between fragments absorbs faster than the fragments themselves do.

Test rather than diarise. Drop a little water on an out-of-the-way part of the counter, wait fifteen minutes and wipe it off; darkened stone underneath means the slab is absorbing and wants sealing. A working counter can ask every six months as a rough guide, with the test deciding rather than the calendar.

Sealed or not, the slab still etches, because etching is a reaction with the stone itself rather than a liquid soaking in. Neither fault is permanent: a poultice draws out most stains, and polishing powder or a fabricator’s hone brings back an etch.
