Hassan Green is a deep green granite carrying a dense scatter of white and pale green mineral grain. Deep enough to read as near-black from across a room, the ground gives up its green as you come closer, and the flecking keeps a fine texture running right through the slab.

The name comes from the Hassan district of Karnataka, in Southern India, where quarrying has gone on for decades. This is a true granite, not a trade name pinned onto something else.

That has practical consequences. Of the green stones in our CDO range it is the only granite, so it is the only one that takes a pan straight off the burner without scorching, never etches, and brings granite hardness of 6 to 7 on the Mohs scale.

Three habits, and a dark polish holds its depth.

Blot Spills and Drips Promptly

Oil is the single spill worth chasing, because it travels into the pale mineral grains quicker than into the darker ground. Everything else stays on the surface and waits for you.

Use Only Granite Cleaner

General-purpose sprays, bleach and vinegar strip the sealer and take the polish down over time. A cleaner built for natural stone lifts grease and attacks neither.

Always Keep the Surface Dry

Mineral rings from hard water stand out sharply against a dark polished ground. One dry cloth after wiping clears them before they gather into a haze.

How Do You Care for Hassan Green Granite?

Sealing aside, three rules and a counter looks after itself.

Always Use a Cutting Board

The stone is harder than any kitchen knife, so the counter wins that argument and the blade loses. A board is there for your knives rather than the granite, which reverses the advice most people expect.

Mind the Edges

Of any slab, the polished edge is the most exposed part. Keep heavy pots from swinging into it, and support any overhang where the counter runs past its cabinet.

Reseal as Needed

The water test decides the timing, never the calendar. A quarter of an hour puts the protection back across the whole run.

Does Hassan Green Granite Need Sealing?

A flecked granite is more open than a plain one.

Yes. Those dense feldspar and quartz grains that hand the stone its texture also leave more pore structure than a uniform gabbro such as Absolute Black, which goes without a sealer entirely.

Test your own slab rather than following a rule. Drop a little water on an inconspicuous part of the counter, leave it fifteen minutes and wipe: darkened stone underneath means it is absorbing and wants sealing, while unchanged stone means the seal still holds.

Let the test call it rather than a date in the diary. Application runs about fifteen minutes on a standard counter: clean it, dry it right through, work in an impregnating sealer, give it dwell time, then buff the excess away before hazing sets in.

Sealing here is genuinely protective, which is not the case with marble. Granite does not etch, so a sealed counter is covered against the one thing that can mark it.

Is Hassan Green Granite Good for Kitchen Countertops?

Green, dark, and tough enough to be a working surface.

Yes. Ordinary cooking leaves no scratch on a stone sitting at 6 to 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, and direct heat is something engineered quartz simply cannot match. Lift a pan off the burner onto it and the surface will not scorch, though a trivet is still worth using, because any stone can crack if the temperature change is sudden and extreme.

The dark ground earns its keep every day. Coffee, soy sauce and red wine barely register against it, and fine flecking breaks up the water marks and crumbs a plain surface would put on display.

Sealing is the only ongoing task, and twenty minutes covers it rather than an afternoon.

It works outside as well. Sunlight leaves granite alone, so where quartz would yellow on a lanai this keeps its colour.

What Colours Go With Hassan Green Granite?

A dark green anchor, so the kitchen can lift around it.

Cream and warm white cabinetry gives the clearest result, and pale flecking in the stone links straight back to it.

Timber does particularly well. Oak and walnut share the warmth in the stone, and green against wood is one of the most reliable pairings a kitchen can be given.

On hardware, brass and antique bronze belong here. Green and brass has worked for a century, and nothing else lifts this stone in quite the same way.
