What Is Chestnut Brown Granite (G687)?

Chestnut Brown is a Chinese granite of white and pale gray quartz crowded with dusty rose-brown feldspar and clusters of black biotite. The grain runs medium-coarse, and close up each crystal holds its own outline. Its quarry code is G687.

The name sets the wrong expectation, because this is not a brown stone. From standing height the impression is a soft, muted rose-gray, a good deal lighter than the label implies, so judge it on the slab in front of you rather than on the word.

Nothing in the pattern runs in a direction, so slabs can be laid whichever way the room wants, which gives us room to move when we place a seam.

At ₱2,400 per square meter only Salt and Pepper undercuts it on our CDO granite list, and a pan can come off the burner onto it, which is more than engineered quartz will tolerate.

What Colours Go With Chestnut Brown Granite?

A muted counter that sits quietly under most schemes.

There is nothing assertive about the rose in this slab, and the surrounding white and gray carry it close enough to neutral that the rest of the room decides the mood.

Cream, warm white and soft gray doors all settle against it easily, so the counter contributes texture and leaves the colour scheme to the cabinetry.

Timber suits it too, lighter species especially. Oak and ash pick up the warmth in the feldspar, while a very dark walnut tends to bury a stone this muted.

The trap is a strong pink or a cold blue-gray alongside it. Either one pulls the rose forward and dates the counter immediately. Hardware can go either way, since nickel and chrome track the gray while brass lifts the warmth, so pick a direction and hold it across the kitchen.
