What Is Black Sapphire Quartz?

Coarse black aggregate with a glitter that catches the light.

Black Sapphire is an engineered quartz whose black base is packed with chunky charcoal and black chips and threaded with fine mirror flecks. The effect lands much closer to a coarse terrazzo than to anything cut from a hillside.

Sparkle is the entire point of it. Put a pendant or downlight above the run and the mirror flecks fire back — precisely what a plain black counter cannot do, since it only drinks light in.

Four colorways make up the Sapphire range, and Black is the darkest of them. All four are built on one aggregate design, carry the same ₱5,200 per square meter figure and share a single specification, so the decision between them is purely colour.

Because the slab is manufactured instead of quarried, it works out at roughly 93% crushed natural stone held together by about 7% resin. That construction is what makes it stain-resistant, incapable of etching, and permanently free of any sealing routine.

How Do You Clean Black Sapphire Quartz?

Three habits, and the sparkle keeps working.

Always Keep the Surface Dry

Limescale and dried water marks show far more on polished black than on anything pale. A damp cloth followed by a dry one leaves the counter clean instead of streaked.

Use Only Quartz Cleaner

Washing-up liquid leaves a film, and against black that film flattens the mirror flecks until the glitter is simply gone. A pH-balanced quartz cleaner strips residue without going after the resin.

Never Scour It

Abrasive powders, scouring pads and steel wool leave permanent scuffing in the polish. Anything baked on comes off with a plastic scraper and no scarring.

How Do You Care for Black Sapphire Quartz?

Nothing to seal, which leaves three rules.

Always Use Trivets

Resin is the heat-sensitive part of the recipe, so a pan carried straight off the flame can scorch or discolor the slab for good. More quartz counters are ruined by heat than by anything else, and no workmanship warranty stretches to cover it.

Keep It Out of Direct Sun

Sustained UV changes engineered quartz permanently, with no way back. Black loses its depth as that happens, so hang blinds where afternoon sun lands and keep quartz installations indoors.

Skip Harsh Chemicals

High-pH products, oven cleaner and bleach all degrade the resin given time. Wax is another thing to avoid, since the cloudy bloom it leaves behind is glaring on black.

Is Black Sapphire Quartz Good for Kitchen Countertops?

Yes, with the trade every black counter makes.

Yes. Etching and staining both meet resistance in engineered quartz, so vinegar, lemon juice, wine and red sauce lift away instead of leaving a record behind. Against a black ground a spill has usually vanished from view long before you get to it.

Hardness pulls its weight too. Marble sits at 3 on the Mohs scale and quartz at roughly 7, which is why a soft quarried stone loses its lustre to scratching after a few years of cooking and this does not.

The trade is the one every dark counter asks you to make. Food and stains disappear, while fingerprints, dust and dried water all announce themselves. Coarse chipping helps more than a fine grain would, because there is enough happening in the surface to break a smear apart — useful in a Cagayan de Oro kitchen in constant use.

Heat is the one real ceiling. Resin scorches when a pan comes off the burner and lands directly on the slab, and no amount of polishing lifts that damage back out. If pans go down straight from the flame in your kitchen, a dark granite is the more forgiving material.

Does Black Sapphire Quartz Need Sealing?

Nothing to seal — engineered quartz is manufactured rather than quarried.

No. A sealer earns its keep by plugging the pore structure of quarried stone so liquid cannot travel inwards. On engineered quartz it achieves nothing at all, and certain formulations actively attack the resin.

Worth knowing if natural stone is still in the running: the dark granites on the CDO list skip sealing as well. Absolute Black and Black Galaxy, both ₱4,200 per sqm, are dense enough to go without, so on upkeep the three sit level. Where they part company is heat, which granite shrugs off and quartz does not.

Anyone selling a sealer for quartz has either misunderstood the material or is selling you something surplus. Cleaning is the whole routine.

Black Sapphire vs the Rest of the Sapphire Range

Black Sapphire is the one that sparkles

Gray Sapphire is the mid-tone version

Gray Sapphire drops the identical chunky aggregate onto a mid gray ground. It is easier to live with in a small or poorly lit kitchen, and it conceals dust far better than anything at this end of the range.

White Sapphire is the bright end

White Sapphire is the high-contrast opposite: the same chips over bright white, with dark fragments for punctuation. It opens a room up where this one weighs it down.

Beige Sapphire is the warm one

Beige Sapphire is the only colorway in the four that runs warm, in cream and tan over sand. Same chips again, opposite end of the tonal scale.

What Colors Go With Black Sapphire Quartz?

A black counter with sparkle wants light above it.

Black is a grounding colour, so keep the cabinetry lighter and let the counter run through the room as the heavy band it is.

White and off-white cabinetry deliver the cleanest contrast, with the mirror flecks stopping the join from looking flat. Pale gray works equally well and softens the edge.

Timber warms the whole thing. Light walnut or oak against a sparkling black reads expensive rather than severe, which is more than a flat black can usually manage.

Lighting counts for more here than colour does. Those flecks only fire under directional light, so pendants or downlights over the run genuinely earn their place. Under flat ambient light it settles into an ordinary black slab, which is worth knowing before you buy it for the sparkle.

Is Black Sapphire real stone?
No, not in the way a quarried slab is. This is engineered quartz, about 93% crushed natural stone bound with roughly 7% resin. Quartz is a natural mineral, but the slab comes out of a plant rather than a hillside, which is why it never etches and never wants sealing. It contains no sapphire.

How does it compare to Nero Calacatta quartz?
Same material and same durability, opposite patterns, and ₱2,800 between them. Nero Calacatta is a veined design at ₱8,000 per sqm, with bold white marbling drawn across a black ground, so it reads as dramatic natural stone. Black Sapphire is an aggregate design at ₱5,200 that reads as terrazzo and sparkles instead of veining. Choose on pattern, not on performance.

Does the sparkle show in every kitchen?
No. Directional light is what the mirror flecks need, so they come alive under downlights, pendants and daylight through a window. Beneath flat ceiling light the slab simply reads as plain black, which is how it will look in plenty of Cagayan de Oro kitchens.

Can you put a hot pan on Black Sapphire quartz?
No. Direct heat scorches the resin holding the slab together and the mark will not polish out. Where pans routinely go straight down onto the counter, a dark granite handles it and quartz does not.

Does Black Sapphire quartz stain?
Stain-resistant, though no surface is immune. Spills stay on top instead of soaking inwards. Coffee, red wine and turmeric all sit there and wipe straight off, and on a black ground you can barely see them while they wait.

Does the pattern need aligning across a seam?
No. Aggregate this even has no grain direction to it, so slabs go down whichever way suits the run and a seam never has to be matched up. That keeps long runs and L-shaped layouts straightforward.

Can Black Sapphire quartz be used outdoors?
No. Sustained UV alters engineered quartz permanently, and a black slab visibly gives up its depth as it goes. For a lanai or an outdoor counter, granite is the material that keeps its colour in full sun.
