What Is Black Impala Granite (G654 Dark)?

Dark ground, fine silver flecking, and the most affordable black in CDO.

Black Impala is a dark gray to near-black granite sprinkled through with fine white and silver mineral grains. Small and evenly spread, that flecking lets the slab read as one solid dark plane from across a room; the texture only emerges up close. The trade also knows the stone by its quarry code, G654 (Dark), and Gray Honda is the identical material graded lighter and sold as G654 (Light).

What we stock is Chinese. Priced at ₱2,600 per square meter, no darker stone on the CDO list costs less, and that is why it shows up again and again in condo fit-outs and rental kitchens.

What Should You Know About the Name?

Nobody registered Black Impala as a quarry designation. It is a trade name, and over the years stone from several different countries has gone out under those two words.

Keep that in mind while you are comparing quotations. Ask a supplier where their material was cut instead of trusting the label, since two slabs sharing a name can differ in density, flecking and price.

How Does the Flecking Read?

Set it beside Black Galaxy and the difference is obvious. Galaxy throws big bronze flecks that catch the light, where this stone lays down small pale grains at an even spacing, with no shimmer and no focal point.

Even is exactly what you want. There is enough texture to swallow crumbs and water spots, and none of the pattern that would force you to match one slab to the next across a seam.

Splashes and crumbs disappear into the flecking, a convenience until something acidic sits there long enough to matter. Wipe as things happen rather than saving it all for the evening.

Use Only Granite Cleaner

A film builds up from dish soap and slowly kills the gloss, and residue announces itself sooner on dark stone than on pale. Something pH-balanced and made for granite leaves nothing behind.

Always Keep the Surface Dry

Nothing shows on a dark polished surface quite like a dried droplet of water. Follow every wipe with a dry microfiber pass and the finish stays even.

How Do You Care for Black Impala Granite?

Three habits, and the sealing is the one that gets forgotten.

Seal It When It Needs It

Density is where this stone gives ground to the premium blacks, which is why it wants sealing at all. Buyers are often caught out, having assumed anything this dark could skip the job.

Always Use a Cutting Board

Scratching the surface takes some doing, but your knives go blunt on it far quicker than on timber. Work on a board and you save the blades while keeping the polish even in the spot you always use.

Never Sit or Stand on It

Hardness is not flex, and an unsupported overhang can split when someone’s weight lands on it. Fetch a step stool instead of climbing up.

Is Black Impala Granite Good for Kitchen Countertops?

A sound budget choice, with one condition attached.

Yes. Measured against what it costs, this is a thoroughly capable kitchen surface. The flecking also forgives more day to day than a solid black would, and five points decide how it lives.

Cookware comes off the burner and straight onto it, and the surface will not scorch, which is not something engineered quartz can offer. A trivet is still worth using, because any stone can crack if the temperature change is sudden and extreme.
There is nothing here for acid to attack, so vinegar, tomato and calamansi leave no dull patches.
Daily traffic and knife work leave nothing visible behind on a CDO counter.
Crumbs and water spots vanish into fine flecking in a way they never do on uniform black polish.
Sealing comes round periodically, and letting it lapse is how most of these counters end up marked.

The last item is the condition. People reason that dark granite never needs sealing because Absolute Black does not, and this rock is the less dense of the two.

Does Black Impala Granite Need Sealing?

Yes, and that surprises people.

Yes. Go round again with sealer once liquid standing on the surface starts to leave it looking darker, a point a busy kitchen reaches well before a guest vanity.

Where does the assumption come from? Absolute Black and Black Galaxy really are dense enough to skip the job, and their reputation gets applied to every dark granite. This rock is different, with a more open structure.

Whenever you are unsure, test. Drop a little water on an inconspicuous stretch of counter, wait fifteen minutes and wipe it away; if the stone beneath has gone darker, the seal has worn through.

Oil does most of the staining damage. On a ground this dark the mark presents as a faintly deeper patch rather than a colour, so it is easy to walk past until it has set.

Choose Black Galaxy if you want the counter noticed

Bronze flecks in Black Galaxy pick up light and change as you move past them. It sits level with Absolute Black at ₱4,200 here, skips sealing too, and makes the counter a feature rather than a background.

Choose Salt and Pepper if you want to go lighter

The same argument in pale gray is Salt and Pepper, and at ₱1,800 nothing in our CDO granite range is cheaper. Sealing applies there too, and no dark stone disguises everyday mess as well as it does.

What Colours Go With Black Impala Granite?

A neutral dark, which makes it easy to place.

Pale flecking breaks up the mass, so the stone never lands as a slab of solid black and takes a small kitchen far better than a plain dark counter.

White cabinetry remains the classic answer and still the best one. Contrast comes up crisp, and rather than fighting the doors the flecking echoes them.

Gray is the pairing that really rewards you, since this stone leans towards charcoal instead of true black. Put a mid-gray shaker door beside it and the scheme reads quietly of a piece.

Warmth comes from timber, with mid-tone oak the safest pick of them all. Go very dark on the wood and the whole run starts to feel weighty.

Matte black, stainless and chrome fittings are all comfortable against it. No warm or cool bias needs accommodating, which goes some way to explaining how widely it gets specified.

Does Black Impala granite need sealing?

Yes, as often as the stone asks for it. No misconception about this granite is more common, because the sealing-free reputation of Absolute Black gets extended to every dark slab on the market.

A more open structure and a lower density mean sealer soaks in here and genuinely earns its keep. Letting it slide is how a counter ends up marked.

How is it different from Gray Honda?

Grade, not stone. One quarry produces both as G654, and this is simply the darker of the two grades.

Expect near-black with white and silver grains showing, against Gray Honda’s mid to dark charcoal and its finer, tighter grain. On the CDO list this one asks ₱2,600 where Gray Honda asks ₱3,200, so decide on depth of colour and on budget.

Where is Black Impala quarried?

Does Black Impala stain easily?

Yes, but only if left unsealed, and oil is the main culprit. A stain on a ground this dark presents as a faintly deeper patch rather than a colour, which lets it escape notice until it has set.

A sealed surface heads the whole thing off. Blot reasonably promptly and staining never becomes a practical worry.

Can Black Impala be used outdoors?

Yes. UV does not touch granite, so the colour holds in full sun and the stone works on lanais, in dirty kitchens and around pool bars.

Just stay on top of the sealing, because weather is harder on a surface than a kitchen is. Anywhere underfoot, choose leathered or flamed over polished, which turns slippery once wet.

Is it good for a rental or a condo fit-out?

It is one of the better choices for both. Of the dark granites in CDO this is the one that costs least, the flecking swallows everyday mess, and tenants do less damage to granite than to quartz or laminate.

Sealing is the single thing to organise. Responsibility has to land with whoever manages the property, or it gets forgotten in the gap between occupants.

Does the colour vary between slabs?
